Flowers and Fun at Unique LA

Unique LA

We had an amazing time at Unique LA last weekend! We met lots of awesome people, got to catch up with some wonderful friends and stocked up on tons of handcrafted goodies.

I worked the booth on Mother’s Day and was pleasantly surprised by how busy it was! Interestingly enough, people came in waves. Sometimes it was empty and quiet, but other times, there was a line of people waiting to be helped out.

Because it was the weekend of Mother’s Day, there were a lot of families shopping together. The sweetest thing: the Unique team put together free bouquets for all the mamas at the show!

After my shift was over, I got to explore and shop around the exhibition floor. Though I definitely enjoyed spoiling myself with purchases, my absolute favorite part about Unique LA was meeting entrepreneurs and small business owners that are passionate about the work they do.

I began my stroll through the floor from one of the front entrances. At the end of the first row, I bumped into our friend Nicole Santo — the talented designer and letterer behind a number of our goods — working at the Wellen Women table. As we chatted, I found out that the day before Mother’s Day, she taught a workshop at Oh, Hello Friend‘s shop in Fullerton. She’s such a hard worker and so inspirational! If you haven’t checked out her work, you definitely should. Here’s a shot of her Insta feed:

My first purchase was from Carden & Aster. Drew Ankerman crafts the most gorgeous pieces of jewelry that are truly one of a kind. Since I have a soft spot for rings, I purchased a set of three rose gold rings from her. I’m still as in love with them as I was when I first saw them!

My second purchase of the day was from ROTD Creations. After accidentally knocking over my first potted succulent from Richard (the founder of ROTD Creations), I needed to get a replacement. I settled on a larger concrete pot with a beautiful oval arrangement. Take a look at all their beautiful arrangements on Etsy:

I also purchased a tin of magical Scrub 2 Go from Bon Bliss Beauty. Run by a husband-and-wife team, Bon Bliss sells to product lines: single-use hand scrub “candies” (Scrub 2 Go) and single-use body scrub “truffles” (Body Truffle). The scrubs do a great job exfoliating and moisturizing, so much so that I don’t even need to lather on lotion after the scrub-down! (I have exceptionally dry and sensitive skin, so that’s a big deal for me.) I got a tin of Black Raspberry Vanilla, but their Bergamot & Neroli shot here really showcases the brand:

Most of my Unique LA purchases were edible goods and most of them are already gone. I treated myself to dessert bars from The Square Treat and DeLuscious Cookies & Milk. I also got a ton of pickles from Pickled by Hattie and Pernicious Pickling Co, thanks to Andrew and Yvonne! I’m already halfway done with all my pickles (and completely finished with the desserts), so the next time you come across these vendors, I highly recommend stocking up on their goodies.

One of my most favorite purchases this show was from Lustered Walnut Pottery & Woodworks. The brainchild of husband and wife team Robert and Marie, Lustered Walnut crafts beautiful artisanal home goods. The whole team at Cardtorial couldn’t stop raving about their gorgeous goods — we love their brand! Though I wanted initially wanted a vase, I settled on a tall faceted tumbler. It’s currently hosting a fresh bouquet of flowers from Trader Joe’s!

A few other vendors I chatted with include Millicent’s Preserves, who told me the sweetest story about how he met his wife and started the company, and Owlo, who creates the most adorable designs and illustrations! I’m definitely looking forward to seeing all of these vendors (and many more) at our next show.

unique laThank you to the awesome Unique team for putting together such a fantastic show! We all had an amazing time and can’t wait for the summer market in August. And thank you to all our friends who stopped by — we hope you enjoyed the Unique experience!
